Why Low Quotes Are BAD

Why Low Quotes Are BAD

What Your Wasatch Front Exterior Home Contractor Is NOT Telling You About Their Low Quote

Cheap Quotes Often Equal Cheap Results

When pricing your exterior home project, you’ve done your due diligence – you’ve gotten three estimates. And now you’re ready to bite the bullet and choose the cheapest option.

(Cue car screech sound effect.)

Not so fast!

It might be enticing to go with the cheapest quote after you’ve sussed out your options. But in the world of home remodeling, cheapest is not always best…and often isn’t. The truth is, cheap quotes look good upfront but cost you on the back end.

We can almost guarantee when your home remodeler lowballs you, there’s a lot they’re not telling you.

Three Things Low Quotes Often Mean

Yes, low quotes are mighty attractive. But don’t get lured in by their initial appeal – because there’s more than what meets the eye. Here are three things a low quote often means…

1. Cheap Quotes = Cheap Products And Cheap Labor

Cheap quotes often come with cheap products and cheap workmanship. It’s that simple. And when you’re investing in your home, you want anything but cheap products and cheap work done.

Cheap products are typically flimsy, weaker, and unreliable. They’re prone to breaking down quicker and need faster replacement than more durable, better-quality products. And, investing in top-performing products upfront saves you money and headaches in the long run.

The same goes for cheap labor – it’s often unreliable and shoddy, and likely means cut corners. When it comes to workmanship, you pay for what you get. Detailed, thorough installations last longer, give you higher-performing results, and look better – and you’ll never get that from bottom-dollar installers.

2. No Warranties Attached

Cheap quotes usually lack something essential to great home remodeling…a great warranty. After all, what manufacturer would want to warranty a product they know will break in a year?

On the other hand, excellent products often come with excellent warranties. Look for lifetime or limited lifetime warranties and ask your contractor about the details of those warranties.

Of course, it will depend on the specific product, but quality siding products should come with a 20 to 30-year parts warranty and at least a ten-year labor warranty.

3. Cheap Quotes Might Mean Illegal Practices

In addition to the cheap workmanship often accompanied by cheap quotes, you might find your exterior home project being done illegally. We don’t want to scare you, but some contractors try to work “under the table” to avoid licensing and certification fees.

Don’t be afraid to ask your contractor for their licensing number, any manufacturer certifications they may have, and especially for proof of insurance. You’d never want to get caught in the middle of a work injury lawsuit just because an accident happened on your property.

Bottom line: Legit home remodeling companies should be properly licensed, certified, and insured.
